DC-LEARN · THE IRISH DC RETROFIT PROGRAMME
Les Murphy CEng · Legacy Business Engineers Ltd · Dublin

The Data Centre Clock
is already ticking

Eight regulations are converging on Ireland’s existing data centres. The deadlines don’t synchronise — they converge. This programme maps every obligation, every deadline, and every engineering response for the Irish retrofit market.

Six content tabs plus Progress. One engineering system. Fully explained.

Each module has six content tabs plus a Progress tracker. The Trivium (Grammar → Logic → Rhetoric) is the core teaching structure inside the Learn tab. The Visual Guide, Field Challenges, Assessment, and The Story tabs complete the learning cycle — from understanding, to seeing, to applying, to being tested, to reading it in narrative.

1
System Overview — the chain at a glance
The opening tab maps the full engineering chain — nine levels from first principles to investment committee language. The Cascade Calculator runs live bottleneck detection: enter target rack density and PUE, and every level shows PASS or FAIL. Click any level to read the plain English summary and open it in the Learn tab.

2
Learn — the Trivium in three stages
Grammar defines every term three ways — plain English, by the numbers, and technical definition with standards references. The Feynman Clarify button cycles through analogy, first principles, and a self-test. Logic builds cause-and-effect chains with Weakest Link analysis. Rhetoric shows how Declan, Ann, Mark, Sarah, and Tom each see the same engineering fact differently.
Feynman Clarify Cause & effect chains Weakest Link (ToC) 5 persona perspectives
3
Visual Guide — how it actually works
3–5 interactive engineering diagrams per module showing system states, failure modes, and design logic step by step. Each diagram passes the Feynman Test: it explains something that text alone cannot. Step through a UPS failure. Watch a free cooling switchover. See what happens when hot aisle containment fails.
Step-based walkthroughs Failure mode visualisation Feynman-tested diagrams 3–5 diagrams per module
4
Field Challenges — apply it at Clonshaugh
Nine engineering challenges per module, one per level. Each challenge puts you on site at Clonshaugh with a specific problem to solve — real parameters, real numbers, real constraints. A Show the Fix button reveals the step-by-step worked answer with sourced numbers and persona perspective. These are not textbook questions. They are the questions a 10-year DC professional would actually face.
9 challenges per module Clonshaugh scenarios Worked answers with sources Persona context
5
Assessment — three tiers of testing
Tier 1 Knowledge Check tests factual recall — definitions, thresholds, standards. Tier 2 Calculation tests whether you can work through the numbers (PUE, energy, cost, payback). Tier 3 Professional Judgement tests decision-making under constraint. Complete all content for an Engagement certificate (2 learning hrs). Score 80% overall for Completion (3 learning hrs). Score 90% for Achievement (4 learning hrs).

6
The Story — the chapter that brings it to life
Each module includes its companion chapter from The Data Centre Clock — a 15-chapter business novel set at fictional Clonshaugh DC. Five professionals discover the same engineering you just learned, but through narrative. The chapter loads directly inside the module — no separate app, no context-switching. Read it after the assessment to see the engineering in action.

Built by an engineer who does this for a living

DC-LEARN was built by Les Murphy CEng, MBA, MSc — a Chartered Engineer and MEP consultant with 30 years’ experience designing the power, cooling, and critical infrastructure systems that data centres are built from. Every module is grounded in the regulations, the engineering, and the commercial realities of the Irish DC market.

This is not a repackaged international course. Every standard cited, every calculation methodology, and every cost benchmark is Irish-specific — CRU, SEAI, ESB Networks, EPA, and the EU Taxonomy as applied in Ireland.

What LBE provides
Engineering intelligence — sourced, referenced, defensible. Every constant classified by data tier with its source cited.
Irish-specific context — CRU/2025236, SEAI 2026 emission factors, EPA IE Licence thresholds. Not UK or US content repackaged for an Irish audience.
Not investment advice — LBE provides technical and regulatory intelligence. Decisions remain with you. PI-safe, standards-referenced throughout.
Structured learning — 2 hrs Engagement / 3 hrs Completion / 4 hrs Achievement per module. Up to 32 / 48 / 64 hrs for the full series. Verifiable certificates per module.

The book is inside every module.

A 15-chapter business novel set at fictional Clonshaugh DC, Dublin. Five professionals — an operator, a fund manager, a technical lead, an ESG analyst, and a cost consultant — discover that eight regulatory clocks are already ticking on their building. Each chapter is built into its DC-LEARN module as The Story tab — no separate app, no context-switching.

Written as accessible business narrative — turning complex regulatory reality into a story you can follow. Learn the engineering, then read it in action.

Frequently asked

DC-LEARN serves five professional audiences who interact with Irish data centres: Operations managers responsible for day-to-day facility management and CRU reporting; Fund and asset managers with DC assets in their portfolio; MEP engineers working on retrofit or new-build projects; ESG and sustainability leads managing EU Taxonomy, EED, and CRU obligations; and QS and cost managers preparing capital budgets or reviewing retrofit proposals. Every module is written to speak to all five — the same engineering, five different perspectives on why it matters.
Uptime and CNet are international programmes. DC-LEARN is built specifically for the Irish retrofit market — CRU/2025236 obligations, SEAI emission factors, ESB Networks connection tiers, EPA IE Licence thresholds, and Irish carbon tax trajectories (currently €71/tCOâ‚‚, rising to €100 by 2030). You will not find a module on CRU annual energy reporting or the 80% renewable obligation in a generic international DC course. DC-LEARN also costs a fraction of Uptime ATD (US$4,985 for five days) or CNet CDCDP (five days, price on application), with Irish-specific content and lifetime access.
Yes. Each module awards a verifiable certificate on completion. Engagement certificates are awarded for completing all content (2 learning hours per module, no assessment). Completion certificates require an assessment score of 80% or above (3 learning hours per module). Achievement certificates require 90% or above (4 learning hours per module). Full series: up to 32 hrs Engagement / 48 hrs Completion / 64 hrs Achievement. Certificates are verifiable at learn.legacybe.ie/verify with a unique certificate ID. Engineers Ireland accreditation application is in progress for Q3 2026.
No. Each module opens with Grammar — plain English definitions before any numbers or standards. The Trivium structure (Grammar → Logic → Rhetoric) is designed so that a fund manager can work through Grammar and get full value, while an MEP engineer can push through to Rhetoric. You follow the path that matches your role. The Feynman Clarify button at every level will re-explain any concept three ways until it lands.
If you purchase Professional access and the programme is not what you expected, request a full refund within 14 days — no questions asked. The only exclusion: if you have completed more than 50% of the paid modules, the refund window closes. Refunds are processed within 5 working days via Stripe. See terms and conditions for full details.
Yes. The Professional tier (€995 founding / €1,995 standard) is a single invoice — straightforward to put through as professional development. The Corporate tier (€9,500/yr for 10 seats) includes team progress tracking and bulk certificates, which makes it easy to report learning activity to HR or compliance teams. If you need a formal quote or purchase order raised, contact us.
DC-LEARN is standalone. It teaches you enough to ask better questions and make more informed decisions about your facility, whether you work with LBE or not. If you want LBE to assess a specific data centre, that’s a separate conversation — talk to an engineer about your situation.
